NATURE ENVISIONED AND THE REAL TRANSFORMED

The collage medium has an inherent ability to transform image fragments into ideas that shape a new portrayal of nature and human ideas. This collage series was inspired by the literary genre of magical realism. My intent was not to illustrate the book or the story, but to give rise to images, colors and shapes that the spirit the story aroused.

The project goal was not to give answers, but to explore the spirit of nature visually and evoke the emotions and mystery humans find there. I hope these works also broaden the understanding of the collage medium, magical realism in literature and art, and present another way of seeing nature.

There is an illustrated book that accompanies this series. The book includes a narrative about collage and each of the paintings. I have included a quote or indicate the author who inspired the painting. The book is available from the artist for fifteen dollars.
